Carolina Caliber’s Suppressor Transfer Process Has Not Changed
You may have heard recent reports that some suppressors can now be transferred without an ATF Form 4 due to a federal court injunction.
That does not change our current suppressor transfer process in North Carolina.
FORM 4s ARE STILL REQUIRED.
A federal injunction has created a potential no-Form-4 pathway for certain qualifying suppressor transactions. However, federal court relief does not eliminate separate requirements imposed by state law.
For suppressor transfers in North Carolina, Carolina Caliber will continue following the established NFA transfer process.
What Does This Mean for Our Customers?
Suppressor transfers through Carolina Caliber requirements will remain the same.
Claims of membership, customer status, an invoice, order number, or another connection to an organization involved in the federal litigation do not override requirements that independently apply under state law.
We’re Watching the Law Closely
Firearm and suppressor laws can change quickly. Court decisions, appeals, agency guidance, state legislation, Attorney General interpretations, and other legal developments may affect how suppressor transfers are handled in the future.
Carolina Caliber will continue monitoring these developments and will update our procedures if the legal requirements affecting suppressor transfers in North Carolina change.
Until then, information circulating on social media, YouTube, online forums, or from dealers operating in other states should not be assumed to apply to a suppressor transfer in North Carolina.

We complete your application electronically using the ATF eForms system.

- Passport-style photograph
Everything is completed conveniently in-store.
4. Submit Your Application
Once everything is complete, we’ll electronically submit your ATF eForm 4 application.
Effective January 1, 2026
✅ Federal suppressor transfer tax: $0
ATF approval is still required before you may take possession of your suppressor.
5. Pick Up Your Suppressor
Once your application is approved, we’ll contact you to complete the transfer and take your suppressor home.
How Long Does Approval Take?
ATF processing times vary.
Many electronic applications are being approved much faster than in previous years, but approval times cannot be guaranteed.

Can I buy a suppressor online?
Yes.
Purchasing a suppressor online is simple:
- Place your order online and select your preferred receiving FFL/SOT during checkout.
- Visit your selected dealer to complete your ATF eForm 4, electronic fingerprints, and passport-style photograph (if they offer those services).
- Your dealer submits your application electronically through the ATF eForms system.
- After ATF approval, and once your suppressor is available at the dealer, you’ll return to complete the transfer and take your suppressor home.

Do suppressors make firearms silent?
No.
Suppressors significantly reduce muzzle blast to help protect hearing and improve shooting comfort, but firearms are not silent.
Can I use one suppressor on multiple firearms?
Yes.
As long as the suppressor is properly rated for the firearm and cartridge being used, it may be used on multiple compatible firearms.
Do I need a “Class 3 License”?
No.
Individuals do not need a Class 3 license to purchase a suppressor.
